Netflix viewers say 'Dumplin'' is "everything 'Insatiable' and 'Sierra Burgess Is a Loser' wanted to be”

Ever since 'Dumplin' came out on Netflix, fans have been praising the film for how it depicts plus-size girls...
Netflix is having an amazing year for original content. In 2018 alone, the popular video streaming service has blessed us with so many incredible new TV series (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is that bitch, Elite transfixed us all and Queer Eye is one of the most uplifting shows of all time). There have also been excellent original films (To All the Boys I've Loved Before is the greatest teen rom-com since forever).
Now, people can't stop talking about Dumplin'. Netflix released Dumplin' on Friday Dec 7 and it's a funny, moving, important coming of age drama about self-acceptance, love and friendship. Willowdean is a plus-size teenager who feels alienated by her mum's pageant queen lifestyle. When Willowdean decides to take part in the pageant herself, she is able to learn a valuable lesson about self-love and sisterhood.
Rising star Danielle Macdonald appears as Willowdean and Jennifer Aniston stars as her mum Rosie alongside the likes of Dove Cameron (Bekah) and Luke Benward (Bo).
What makes Dumplin' so different to Insatiable and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser?
The movie has so far received widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike and it is easy to see why. Not only does it steer clear of messy teen drama tropes (it's not all about getting a boy's attention and there is no makeover) it also features a love interest who loves Willowdean exactly as she is (Bo is a sweetheart). Not only that but Willowdean is loveable, flawed and relatable af.
In fact, people love it so much that they're saying that it's "everything Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and Insatiable wanted to be". Despite sharing similar themes to Dumplin', SBIAL and Insatiable both relied heavily on stereotypes, contained problematic storylines and included offensive jokes. Dumplin' thrives because its message is clear and it is filled with heart and love.
Here are just a few of the reactions that show how special the movie is and what makes it so different to SBIAL and Insatiable.
The list of positives about the film are endless.
dumplin' is everything insatiable and sierra burgess is a loser wanted to be but couldn't achieve. it sends a beautiful message for plus size women and girls, has beautiful character development, AND a cute ass relationship too! i recommend y'all!!

We see no lies.
There are no mean girls in this movie either.
Well isn't Netflix' "Dumplin'" delightful. Effortlessly did what "Sierra Burgess" and "Insatiable" tried to do. So warm and sweet and everyone was likeable and easily evaded the bitchy teen beauty queen trope :') A perfect evolution of the pagent movie

Now that is an evolution.
That one scene is beyond brilliant.

you guys please go watch dumplin' its so heartwarming acknowledges ones insecurities, tackles body positivity well, has strong female friendships, character developments, drag queens & the romance is so cute sierra burgess & insatiable are shaking pic.twitter.com/KN8tkSH0Pr
Also did we mention drag queens.
No makeover. No lies. Just love.
After Insatiable and Sierra Burgess, #Dumplin’ is the movie fat girls deserve. The heroine is confident, smart and doesn’t need to get thin or lie to get a boy to like her.

From the catfishing to the fat suit, SBIAL and Insatiable could have done so much better.
What's more it's actually resonating with plus-size girls.
As a fat girl, #dumplin made me feel a hell of a lot better about myself than Sierra Burgess. Dumplin is a truly wonderful film, I love it.

This is priceless.
They are finally getting the teen rom-com they deserve.
Can I just say that #Dumplin was everything I wanted Sierra Burgess to be but infinitely better? As a plus size girl, my heart is bursting with gratitude for this film ♥️

Hopefully there will be many more like it in the future.
A moment of appreciation for this quote.
"Willowdean Dickson I think you're beautiful. To hell with anyone else who's ever made you feel less than that" #Dumplin
