We love a progressive queen...
It's no secret that Demi Lovato is one of the most successful popstars in the entire world right now. The 'Heart Attack' singer currently has over 35 million unique monthly listeners on Spotify alone and is currently topping the UK charts with her Clean Bandit collaboration 'Solo'. Not to mention, she also recently received widespread critical acclaim for her Christina Aguilera duet 'Fall In Line' and her soul-bearing new single 'Sober'. She is thriving.

To top it all off, Demi is now in the midst of the biggest tour of her career to date. The Tell Me You Love Me Tour is a brilliant 52 date experience that kicked off in the US in February and will end in Brazil in November. So far Demi has received huge praise not just for her incredible vocals and stage presence but also for the hit-packed setlist. From 'Give Your Heart a Break' to 'Daddy Issues', there is not one weak song.
However, there is one concert moment in particular that is on everyone's lips right now. Demi has changed the lyric to one of her most successful singles to make it more LGBTQ+ friendly. When Demi released 'Cool for the Summer' back in 2014, the former Disney star received some backlash for the way in which it sensationalised same sex love. The song is about two girls experimenting with each other and the line 'don't tell your mother' was heavily criticised for making queer relationships seem taboo.
Even Halsey dissed the song and others like it in a Paper magazine interview. Discussing pop songs that explicitly reference same-sex sexual experimentation, she said: "Oh, yeah. Bisexuality as a taboo. "Don't tell your mom" or "We shouldn't do this" or "This feels so wrong but it's so right.""My boyfriend won't mind." That narrative is so fucking damaging to bisexuality and its place in society".
This response came long before Demi publicly revealed in her 2017 documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated that she does not put labels on her sexuality and has had relationships with both men and women. Ever the remarkable star though Demi has listened to the feedback that she received and now changed the line in the song from 'don't tell your mother' to 'go tell your mother' on tour.
Unsurprisingly fans adore it. Not only does it encourage people to accept their sexualities and come out but it also changes the entire meaning behind the song. Instead of sensationalising queer love and sex, it normalises it. Since the tour began, people have been taking to Twitter to praise Demi for it.
Some stated just how important it is.

Others mentioned how special it was to hear the lyric change during Pride month.
demi lovato changing her cool for the summer screens to “go tell your mother” for pride month is my fave popstar tribute so far, it’s such a small change but it’s really effective

Demi knows.
A couple of fans pointed out how much work Demi does to promote LGBTQ+ acceptance.
So @ddlovato was giving the gays everything we want tonight - LGBT+ inclusive kiss cam, pride flag on stage, “love who you want and go tell your mother”... pride definitely came to Barcelona a week early! 💕🏳️🌈 pic.twitter.com/jnnsT5v9u2

We are not worthy of her.
If the message weren't clear enough, she literally announces it during her show as well as singing it.

We must protect Demi Lovato at all costs.
These are the original 'Cool for the Summer' lyrics.
VERSE 1
Tell me what you want
What you like
It's okay
I'm a little curious too
Tell me if it's wrong, if it's right
I don't care
I can keep a secret, can you?
PRE-CHORUS
Got my mind on your body and your body on my mind
Got a taste for the cherry, I just need to take a bite
Don't tell your mother
Kiss one another
Die for each other
We're cool for the summer
BREAK
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
CHORUS
Take me down into your paradise
Don't be scared, 'cause I'm your body type
Just something that we wanna try
'Cause you and I, we're cool for the summer
VERSE 2
Tell me if I won
If I did, what's my prize?
I just wanna play with you too
Even if they judge, fuck it, I'll do the time
I just wanna have some fun with you
PRE-CHORUS
Got my mind on your body and your body on my mind
Got a taste for the cherry, I just need to take a bite
Don't tell your mother
Kiss one another
Die for each other
We're cool for the summer
BREAK
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
CHORUS
Take me down into your paradise
Don't be scared, 'cause I'm your body type
Just something that we wanna try
'Cause you and I, we're cool for the summer
We're cool for the summer
We're cool for the summer
INTERLUDE
Shh...
Don't tell your mother
BREAKDOWN
Got my mind on your body and your body on my mind
Got a taste for the cherry, I just need to take a bite

Just something that we wanna try (wanna try)
'Cause you and I (you and I), we're cool for the summer
