It's all to do with the number 40.

A fan theory has been circulating around the internet that Twenty One Pilots will be returning with new music today (13 April).

The clique have been tweeting about a theory that seems to originate from a reddit comment on r/twentyonepilot that says Twenty One Pilots would end their hiatus after 280 days (40 weeks). This is because of the supposed religious significance of the number 40 in Christianity and Tyler's faith.

According to a hiatus counter on Twitter, it has been 280 days since Twenty One Pilots last tweeted.

We double checked and it is 280 days since the band tweeted from their official account.

Here's the theory in full:

"So according to the hiatus counter on Twitter, if the hiatus were to end on April 13, then it would've gone on for 280 days. That would equate to forty weeks. Forty is a very significant number in Christianity. In the Torah, Moses and his fellow Hebrews had to travel through the desert for forty years to get to the Promised Land. In the Gospel, the length between Jesus Christ's resurrection and ascension lasted forty days. There are many more examples of the number forty being used. The significance of the number forty in the Bible is that it's representing a testing of faith. If the hiatus lasts forty weeks, then it means that Tyler is testing the faith of his followers, just like how God tested the faith of His.Keep in mind that Tyler is openly Christian (his beliefs can be heard throughout TØP's discography), so this, in my opinion, is very plausible."

I mean, plausible is one word. 'Reach' is another.

Just because Tyler is a Christian, that doesn't mean he would devise an entire album release strategy around the significance of the number 40. Also, do Tyler and Josh really seem like the type of people that would 'test the faith' of their fans?

Despite this, fans are tweeting the theory and getting very excited about the possibility of new TØP music.

LOL!

Well, we're pretty sure it's BS but, we can't lie, it's fun to get swept up in the theories and excitement. We KNOW the album can't be that far off and so we'll continue to hunt for every last crumb that we can.

Here's everything we know so far about the new Twenty One Pilots album.
