People can't get over the contrast of Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran's styles at the Global Citizen Festival in South Africa. The memes are already hilarious.

A photo of Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran performing their duet, "Perfect", at the Global Citizen Festival in South Africa has sparked online debate and its fair share of memes. The picture features Beyonce wearing an elaborate fuchsia gown on stage while Ed sports a white long-sleeve top under a black t-shirt with jeans.

The stark difference between their fashion choices has led people to consider how we expect performers like Beyoncé to dress versus what we expect from artists like Ed Sheeran.

Comments about the pair's contrasting outfits went viral, with thousands of responses on both sides of the argument. Many thought Ed's look was part of a larger conversation about unequal standards and expectations for female performers, while others praised him for committing to his signature look.

Page Six called Sheeran "wildly underdressed" while Elle hilariously noted that the pair looked "like roughly 75% of heterosexual couples."

While the two performers give off distinct and different vibes, sartorially and otherwise, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran certainly did not look like they were attending the same event.

The memes about their different looks captured the hilarious contrast perfectly.

And people wondered what Ed would look like in fuschia.

Or perhaps another look....

The whole thing reminded people of times they've been way overdressed or way underdressed at an event.

Truthfully, we've been on this fashion ride with Ed Sheeran for nearly a decade now. Expecting Ed to serve anything beyond a spicy flannel and t-shirt combo is setting yourself up for disappointment. The prevailing argument online is that that their artistries have a very different feel to them and we should adjust our expectations accordingly.

While everyone is entitled to wear what they want, it can't hurt to admit that we do expect so much more from women in this industry. Women in Beyoncé's position have to sound great, look great, and BE great at all times. It is not unfair to note the visual contrast.

What do you guys think? Have you ever shown up to an event where the dress code was extremely unclear??
