Ariana Grande addresses Aubrey dating rumours with Troye Sivan in the 'thank u, next’ video

Fans started speculating that Ariana Grande was dating a girl when 'thank u, next' came out...

Ariana Grande's 'thank u, next' music video is quickly shaping up to be one of the cultural events of the year. From the track itself (it's a record-breaking, first-class Number 1 bop) to the films that the visual is set to reference (Legally Blonde, Bring It On, 13 Going On 30, Mean Girls), everything about it already screams iconic. Not to mention, the fact that there is going to be a Victorious reunion in it.

In fact, it is the cameos in it that are sending fans crazy. As well as some of the actual stars from the chick flicks in the video (Jennifer Coolidge and Jonathan Bennett), 'thank u, next' will feature the likes of Colleen Ballinger, Victoria Monet and Troye Sivan. Ariana dropped a teaser for the visual yesterday and fans are now losing it over the Aubrey lesbian reference in the Troye Sivan segment.

Who is Aubrey and is Ariana really dating her?

The teaser itself pays tribute to the hilarious Regina George montage in Mean Girls. Except there's one big twist. Instead of it being students talking about Regina, it's Mean Girls cast members and Ariana's friends all dressed as students talking about Ariana. And the part which fans are obsessing over is when Troye says: "I heard she's a lesbian now and dating some chick named Aubrey".

Incredible. Troye then adds: "it's fucking sick". For those of you confused, no Ariana is not dating a girl named Aubrey. When 'thank u, next' came out people misheard one of the lyrics. Ariana sings: "I know they say I move on too fast // But this one gon' last // 'Cause her name is Ari" but some listeners thought that she sang Aubrey and that it was a confession that she is a lesbian.

With that in mind, Troye's 'thank u, next' comment is not an actual revelation but just a hilarious joke put in as a reference to the Aubrey rumours. The rumours were so big that they ended up turning into a meme and Ariana even addressed them on Twitter. First things first, she joked about Apple Music getting the lyrics wrong and then she retweeted a fan's own Aubrey meme.
