"Endo is no joke."

Women haven't always been able to speak so openly about their experiences with Endometriosis. Endo, as you may know, is a painful condition that causes endometrial tissue to grow outside the uterus. Celebrities like Halsey and Lena Dunham have both been instrumental in opening up the public conversation about endometriosis. Lena even documented a recent endometriosis scare after the Met Gala.

One woman is sharing her own story and urging others to speak to their doctors if they have painful periods and think they may have the condition.

Thessy Kouzoukas, a creative director and co-owner of Saboskirt, shared a post on Instagram where she detailed her recent complications with the condition.

Thessy showed the before and after pictures of her severely distended stomach after her endometrial cyst ruptured.

"The left is my stomach 3 weeks after a ruptured cyst," Thessy writes.

Thessy had to go on a medication that has stopped her hormones and sent her "into menopause at the age of 27." The operation that she now has to undergo will last 7+ hours and will require a week of hospital in-patient care.

It's estimated that 10% of women of reproductive age have endometriosis. The symptoms of endometriosis include painful periods, painful sex, abnormal bleeding, and painful bowel movements. As Thessy puts it, "endo is no joke".

If you experience any of the symptoms associated with endometriosis, it's so imperative to speak to your doctor and get checked out as soon as possible.
