"Please don't tell kids how to turn their miserable and hopeless lives into a thrilling and cathartic suicide mission."

13 Reasons Why has drummed up quiiiiite a bit of a conversation surrounding its storylines since it was released on Netflix at the end of March, hasn't it?

The cast and the show's executive producer Selena Gomez have all been pretty great in urging teens, parents and everyone in between to sit down and watch the show, and think about the importance of the messages that 13 Reasons Why is bringing forward. But others haven't been quite as enthusiastic about it. Mental health charities and various other celebrities have called out the show for glamorising suicide and now, a band who was featured on the soundtrack has called them out too.

In a bunch of tweets posted on Saturday (April 30), Carseat Headrest, whose song 'Oh! Starving" plays during the show, urged writers to not "tell kids how to turn their miserable and hopeless lives into a thrilling and cathartic suicide mission."

The tweets then went on to encourage teens to watch another one of Selena Gomez' adventures on the big screen, Spring Breakers... which is literally a film about four teenage girls getting involved in gangs, doing drugs and shooting people, but lol ok whatever.

They make a fair point (although the 'miserable and hopeless lives' part was a bit insensitive); a lot of the backlash surrounding the show has been in regards to the way Hannah saddles the blame and sends her "friends" on some kind of twisted revenge mission but we also would have to argue that the book was released in 2007 and the source material already existed when the band agreed to let their song be added to the soundtrack so why have beef with it now?

Either way, this is still an important conversation worth having so that next time someone wants to tell a similar story, we can handle it even better.

And also... sorry about it Carseat Headrest.
