They were just two of many celebrities who critiqued the controversial star...

It's been a tough year for Kanye West fans. The 'All Falls Down' star is prone to making controversial remarks but his actions and words this year have led many to give up on listening to the rapper altogether. From actively endorsing Donald Trump to his rumoured collaborations with problematic artists, including XXXTentacion and 6ix9ine, it's been hard to actively support the self-proclaimed genius as of late.

That's not all though. Kanye came under fire in May for his offensive tweets about slavery. The 41-year-old wrote: "When you hear about slavery for 400 years ... For 400 years? That sounds like a choice." Unsurprisingly, the comments received major backlash. Kanye later apologised on Chicago's WGCI-FM but now he's posted a shocking tweet about the 13th amendment and people are calling him out.

What is the 13th Amendment?

Following his SNL performance on Saturday, Kanye tweeted a selfie in a 'MAGA' cap with the caption: "this represents good and America becoming whole again.  We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs.  We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love". WTF?

And it is the hat and the "abolish the 13th amendment line" that are understandably rubbing people the wrong way. The 13th Amendment was a change in US law passed by the Senate on April 8th 1864 to make slavery illegal except as a punishment for crime. Considering how important the amendment is to so many people, it's easy to see why Kanye's tweet is insulting people.

Celebs and the general public alike have since responded to the tweet. Here are just a few of the reactions.

Chris Evans is calling out Kanye for his ignorance.

Nothing but respect for MY president.

Lana Del Rey is questioning how Kanye could support someone who condones sexual assault.

We see no lies.

Wanda Sykes is calling on God for help.

We're beyond confused too.

Ava DuVernay thinks that Kanye is a lost cause.

She has a point your honour.

Ben Phillipe wants Kanye to read.

This would be a good start.

Actually everyone wants Kanye to pick up a book.

.

Please.

Update: Kanye has since defended and backtracked on his original tweet.
