Shrek is being rebooted and fans are absolutely furious about it

A reboot? Right in front of MY swamp?!
As Jane Austen once wrote, "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that Shrek is one of the greatest films that has ever been and will ever be made." The beloved green ogre first came into our lives in 2001 and we, as a planet, never looked back. 17 years later and we think we speak for everyone when we say it's one of the most healthy and fulfilling relationships we've ever been blessed with.
But, dear friends, we've got some bad news... the cinematic masterpiece (and subsequent box office-smashing quadrilogy) is being... rebooted.
Shrek, along with its spin-off Puss in Boots, will be reimagined by the man behind Despicable Me, Chris Meledandri. According to Variety, Universal Pictures has tasked Meledandri, with "finding some fresh story lines" to reintroduce Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, Puss and all our favourite fairytale characters to a new generation. (Shrek is timeless and is known throughout all generations, but off, we guess.)
The films will not be sequels (RIP Shrek 5). They will be completely new stories. The franchise will start again, from the very beginning. Which is not what we want, and it's not what we planned. It's not what we asked for either.
Needless to say, fans of the damn near perfect original franchise aren't down for the reimagining of Shrek AT ALL.
what the FUCK do you mean "reboot Shrek"?!

There is some good news, however... most of the original cast that made Shrek so iconic in the first place will be returning. That means Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy will be back as Shrek and Donkey alongside a handful of other original cast members.
“When you look back on those vocal performances, they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterisations,” Meledandri told Variety.
“The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”
But with the same cast, and the same characters... surely it'd be easier to just... carry on with what's already been established and not rehash an already PERFECT film? Whatever. Shrek doesn't deserve this.
