"Dunno how others see anything other than pink and white?"

Imagine this. It's February 2015 and the internet is a very different place.

For starters, everyone is obsessed with this dress because no one can definitively say what colour it is. Is it white and gold? Is it black and blue?

The mystery sent the internet into a tailspin for at least a week, as people argued for one set of colours over another. As it turns out, the dress was blue and black, but that didn't stop the mass hysteria.

Fast forward to 2017 and, prepare yourselves, we have a similar conundrum on our hands.

Rachel Stewart posted the image on Facebook with the caption "dunno how others see anything other than pink and white?" Which is funny because this particular author sees grey and turquoise.

Commenters under the post are similarly torn.

It might seem straightforward but we can't help how our eyes work. So, what's behind this particular phenomenon?

Our brains interpret light and shadows in unique ways. Scientists have studied this phenomenon for years now, surmising that it can be a number of different factors. From how much light is hitting the clothing in the photo to how our eyes see and process the colours, the tiny differences we see when we encounter things like this could be down to many different conditions.

There you go, guys. Don't spend too much time looking at the outfit (you'll drive yourself wild) but, seriously. It's grey and turquoise, right?
