It's official. Captain Marvel now boasts the highest grossing opening weekend of any female led film ever globally. Ever since the announcement that the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be releasing its first female led movie with Brie Larson, fans have been excited to see it and Captain Marvel does not disappoint. The movie features incredible dialogue, acting performances and one of the best soundtracks in recent memory.

And the numbers don't lie. From Friday March 8th to Sunday March 10th, Captain Marvel grossed $455,000,000 worldwide, bringing in $153,000,000 in the US and Canada alone. It now lays claim to the second highest global opening weekend of any superhero film ever. Captain Marvel is also the only film that is not a sequel or a reboot to appear in the list of top 10 highest grossing box office opening weekends of all time.

10. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 2009 ($394,022,354)

Considering how much of a phenomenon Harry Potter is this should come as no surprise. Still sad about Snape.

9. Furious 7 - 2015 ($397,627,459)

Fast and Furious makes a couple of appearances on this list. Furious 7 is Paul Walker's last appearance in the franchise.

6. Captain Marvel - 2019 ($455,000,000)

She's beauty and she's grace. She's record-breaking and she is literally going to defeat Thanos. Iconic.

We told you there was another Fast and Furious movie on the list. This one went onto gross $1.2 billion in total.
